ACES ATI Reg 9 Organic Agriculture cum Set-up start Feb 25 to Mar 8

      Dipolog City, March 7, 2013- ACES Polytechnic College, Panabo City, Davao del Norte and Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement to jointly conduct a first of a kind training program on Organic Agriculture / Natural Farming with equipment set-up for organic feed formulation and production. The training program was conducted starting on February 25, 2013 at the ACES Natural Farming institute for the technology training component and the facility set-up conducted at Labakid, Irasan, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.

      The participants were introduced to the many technologies on the preparation of concoctions, fermentation and feed formulation. These are important components in the implementation of a sustainable and income generating process of feed production. Part of the training program was focused on the operation and maintenance of the shredder, ball mill, mixer and model pelletizer which are part of the training package.

        On the 1^st of March 2013, the training team of ACES Polytechnic College, ACES Natural Farming Institute, travelled from Panabo City,  with the group from ATI region 9, on a 5- vehicle convoy. Upon arrival at the site of the community model farm at Irasan, Zamboanga del Norte, the equipment were tested and set-up in preparation for the continuation of the training program and production of organic feeds. It is important to mention that Dr. Francisco P. de la Peña, Jr. President / CEO of ACES Polytechnic College directly organized and managed the implementation of the project with full support of the ATI Director (OIC) Dennis Prosianos.

       The partnership of ACES and ATI through the program on Accelerating Community Enterprises for Sustainable Agricultural Technology Innovations on Organic Knowledge (ACES-ATI-OK)  is building up the capabilities of farmers and local community leaders. This is envisioned to ensure that the philosophy, technology and income generating potential of RA 10068 trickles down to the grassroots and achieves its purpose of poverty alleviation through production of healthy food.

       A model learning farm is set-up for organic range chicken production, organic hog raising and organic vegetable gardening. Also planned to be included in the farm model is a cattle fattening set-up and goat raising.

       Plans for project sustainability on continuous research and application by ACES Polytechnic College and ACES Natural Farming Institute for organic agriculture/natural farming technology are being discussed and prepared on the drawing board. With the blessings of the top officials of ATI and the support of the local leaders, these plans are expected to provide employment to not less than five thousand organic farmers in the next two years through ACES- ATI and Local Government Units.
